Meet Dena
I have been a practicing massage therapist for over 11 years. After receiving a B.A. in Biology from Lycoming College in 1985, I worked in a breast cancer research laboratory and in healthcare administration until attending Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy in 1995.
I became interested in massage therapy when I trained to run in the Pittsburgh Marathon in 1994. When I started running 70 to 80 miles a week at the age of thirty, I ended up with a lot of aches and pains, so I looked to a massage therapist for help. The more I learned about massage, the more I wanted to know. I found the school and took the basic program to learn Swedish massage and have never enjoyed working more.
Since 1995, I have taken courses in several types of massage therapy to enhance my skills and make a better therapist. I allowvtime between taking each course to maximize my understanding of the new modality before moving on to the next class. The latest course I took is Thai massage and I am excited to be using that newly acquired skill with my clients.
I have been fortunate to work with both a wonderful medical doctor and highly skilled chiropractors from whom I’ve learned how to be the best healthcare provider I can be. They have taught me so many things that I can pass on to my clients and I am grateful to them.
I tell my clients that their body tells me what to do. I use all the information and techniques that I have learned when I work on a client. Every body has different areas that are stressed and overworked, so I must let the body cue me to what modalities of massage therapy I will employ during each massage. That is why every massage is unique.
I have been privileged to do massage therapy on many people throughout my career and I look forward to working on many more in the future.
